Qatargas awards Laffan contract to SNC-Lavalin
SNC-Lavalin has secured a wastewater treatment project for Qatargas’s Laffan Refinery 2
SNC-Lavalin has secured a contract to build a wastewater treatment plant at Qatargas’s Laffan Refinery 2.
Under the terms of the deal, SNC-Lavalin will provide engineering, procurement, supply, construction, and commissioning services for the water recycling facility.
Once completed, the plant will handle treated industrial water from Laffan Refineries 1 and 2. Purified water will be recycled back to the refineries for use in the cooling and boiler feed-water systems.
The contract is expected to complete during the first quarter of 2017.
Commenting on the contract win, Christian Brown, president of oil and gas at SNC-Lavalin, said: “We are delighted to play a key role in delivering this sustainable project, which contributes to Qatargas meeting its environmental commitments, and bringing the system safety into operation. We have been working with Qatargas for 12 years and look forward to continuing our successful relationship.”
The recycling system is designed to reuse treated industrial water produced by the industrial plants. Ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis systems, as well as ancillary facilities, comprise the primary components of the facility.
Laffan Refinery 2, is located in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar. Ultimately, the plant will process an additional 146,000 barrels per day (bpd) of condensate recovered from the North Field, doubling the capacity of Laffan Refinery 1.
Qatar Petroleum (QP) estimates that Laffan Refinery 2 will complete in Q3 2016.
