CW Awards 2015: Contractor of the Year revealed

UAE-based contractor scoops prestigious prize at Construction Week Awards 2015

ALEC was crowned Contractor of the Year at the Construction Week Awards 2015, held on Wednesday, 9 December at InterContinental – Dubai Festival City.

This was the second award of the night for ALEC, which has worked on projects such as Abu Dhabi’s Park Hyatt Hotel, Saadiyat Island, and Hamad International Airport’s retail and duty free segments.

Judges were universally appreciative of ALEC’s performance as a safety-conscious contractor, known for delivering high-profile projects on time. In the words of one judge: “[ALEC is] a consistent performer… with its impressive team of people. [They] are proud of what they do, and have one of the best staff retention statistics I have seen in this industry.”

"It feels wonderful to win this award. It is a continuing commitment to providing excellent contribution to the construction sector. We are always trying to look after the client's needs," said Hercu Viljoen, managing director for related businesses at Alec.

He added, "In 2016, we look forward to continuous work and new projects. We are committed towards executing each project with success."

This year’s highly commended contractor was Brookfield Multiplex, and other shortlisted nominees in the category included Al Futtaim Carillion, Arabian MEP Contracting, China State Construction Engineering Corporation ME, Plafond Fit Out, Samsung C&T Corporation, and UrbaCon Trading & Contracting.

An independent panel of eight judges made up of industry professionals from across the GCC and throughout the construction sector came up with the final decision in each of the 14 categories.
