ALEC was named for the Healthy & Safety Initiative of the Year for its Action Notice System at the Construction Week Awards 2015 held on Wednesday, 9 December at InterContinental – Dubai Festival City.

According to one of the judges, “the Action Notice System (ANS) is designed to identify unsafe acts and conditions in the workplace with a view to addressing them before they occur".

The system combines an Action Notice Book with a software-based register that tracks each individual non-conformance raised by the HSE Officers.

This year’s highly commended HSE Initiative of the Year award went to Brookfield Multiplex for its Work at Heights Safe Working Platform.

Wynand du Preez, regional central construction risk manager at ALEC, said: "It's a huge privilege to have won the award, especially since we've been highly commended a couple of times.

"It feels very good to receive the positive feedback which implies we are on the right track and doing the right thing."

Revealing his plans for ALEC's HSE strategy in 2016, Du Preez added: "We hope to continue with and expand our Safety Cadet programme next year."
