TDIC is aiming for a mid-2016 completion of the Louvre Abu Dhabi.

Ali Majed Al Mansoori, chairman of the UAE's Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC) accompanied Arabtec chairman Mohammed Thani Murshed Al Rumaithi to the Louvre Abu Dhabi construction site in the country.

The officials were present for the installation of 30,000 sqm of natural stone paving on the site.

Louvre Abu Dhabi recently celebrated the completion of the outer cladding on its iconic 180m wide dome.

Work is also progressing on the museum’s main gallery spaces, the basement levels, and the entrance and administration buildings.

Remarking on construction progress, Al Mansoori said: "We are monitoring [Louvre Abu Dhabi's] progress very closely with our partners and contractors.

"Construction of the museum is in its final stages and we are looking forward to a handover of the building taking place mid-2016."

State agency WAM reported the next step in the museum's construction is the removal of the 14m deep temporary concrete hydraulic cut-off walls currently built in the sand so that work could commence on dry land.

Once that takes place, seawater will then be allowed to flow in gradually until the museum appears to be gently floating in the sea.
