Laing O'Rourke CEO Anna Stewart resigns
The global chief executive of the UK contractor is resigning due to ill health
The chief executive officer of UK contractor Laing O'Rourke, Anna Stewart, has stepped down with immediate effect.
Laing O'Rourke operates in the Middle East, and has worked on key UAE projects, such as Abu Dhabi's Aldar HQ building and Dubai's Atlantis hotel.
Ray O'Rourke, the company's executive chairman, is expected to assume her role.
Stewart has reportedly resigned for health reasons, Construction Enquirer reported.
Commenting on Stewart's decision, O'Rourke said: "Anna’s medical treatment makes it impossible to continue with the full range of her extensive work duties and travel commitments.
“I can confirm that Anna will be continuing with the Laing O’Rourke Group and going forward will support me with a number of important strategic activities, which will be managed around her treatment regime.
“We, as a board, extend our very best wishes to Anna for a full and speedy recovery.”
Global construction professionals, especially those who have worked closely with Stewart in the past, expressed regret about the announcement.
