Ford Police Interceptor retains crown in US trials
Ford EcoBoost Police Interceptors recorded the quickest acceleration and fastest lap times in tests conducted by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) and Michigan State Police (MSP)
Ford’s 2016 EcoBoost Police Interceptor models recorded the quickest acceleration and fastest lap times during the latest agency tests in the United States.
The Ford EcoBoost Police Interceptor Sedan and Ford Ecoboost Police Interceptor Utility outsprinted their competitors in trials conducted by the Las Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) and Michigan State Police (MSP).
The US manufacturer’s EcoBoost Police Interceptor Sedan recorded the fastest 0-100km/h and 0-160km/h acceleration times, the fastest quarter-mile time, the fastest top speed in the quarter-mile sprint, and the fastest average lap time for overall vehicles.
The Utility model also clocked the fastest 0-100km/h and 0-160km/h times in its class, the fastest quarter-mile time, the fastest top speedin in the quarter-mile sprint, and the fastest average lap time for utility vehicles.
Commenting on the results, Arie Groeneveld, Ford’s Police Interceptor chief engineer, said: “We are proud to maintain our performance advantages, and these validate Ford Police Interceptor leadership. We love the bragging rights, but for these officers, best-in-class performance is a huge safety attribute. Pursuits that end quickly are more likely pursuits that end safely. This team is obsessed with officer safety.”
Following the introduction of new testing protocols, both agencies conducted testing with a ‘key on and drive’ policy for the first time this year. This meant that stability and traction control settings were in default mode, as they would be in a ‘real-life’ situation.
The Ford EcoBoost Police Interceptor Sedan tested quicker than all of its V8-equipped competitors for the second consecutive year. The Ford EcoBoost Police Interceptor Utility out-accelerated its rivals’ latest V8-equipped utility vehicles and base V6-powered sedans.
