5 Minutes With: Evie Boustantzi, Al Shirawi FM
Evie Boustantzi, Director (ESG) & GM, Al Shirawi FM, Interiors & Visionwood reveals what makes FM service providers tick
What does your role involve?
I manage the FM, interiors and joinery businesses for Al Shirawi Group. I am responsible for ensuring long-term, sustainable growth and profitability through continuous improvement and strategic alignment to the ever-changing environment. The three businesses, 3,000 people strong, complement each other but also present their own unique management challenges.
What do you love most about your job?
I have a passion for making positive change, for seeing through value creation. Al Shirawi is a special place where all that is not only possible but the driving force of our very existence. Be it customer service and mutually beneficial relationships, employee growth and development, industry progression, it all comes down to our passion to enable progress for all.
What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
In a service industry manned by purely technical people the biggest challenge is instilling the vital soft skills that transform service from good to breathtaking, well beyond “satisfaction”. Our mission is to achieve just that and invest heavily in continuous improvement throughout our operations, the foundation of which is that enabling culture. It is a challenging journey but an immensely fulfilling one for all of us.
What has been your most memorable project and why?
All projects are special and therefore valuable to us. In terms of complexity, it has to be the Dubai Design District (D3) of Tecom. It is a permanently ‘live’, large scale job, where construction handover and operation co-exist. At the same time, fit-out, moving in of tenants and every-day events are keeping us on our toes, while smart city applications are designed and implemented in the background.
Where do you see the FM industry in five years?
The UAE is no typical marketplace. Alongside the Dubai vision the industry is maturing rapidly, even during times of uncertainty. More customers than ever invest in extending their properties lifecycle and we see a change towards long-term partnership relationships. Sophistication of data analysis and therefore value optimisation- will come through smart systems application, whereby sustainability will be an integral part of the service and extension of the technology framework. Benchmarks will lift quality and bring increased consistency.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy most of it with my husband and son. I also love reading but catching up with the latest knowledge and news is a challenge!
