Dubai has been ranked as one of the top five models of Cities of the Future by International Real Estate Federation.
The global entity recognises cities that implemented international standards of urban planning, which include the deployment of sustainable technologies and smart city initiatives.
The announcement was made by Danielle Grossenbacher, world president of International Real Estate Federation, in January 2016.
Commenting on the development, HE Ahamad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, shared: “The urban planning in Dubai is among the best in the world, which makes the Emirate an ideal city for living, work and tourism. The sustainability criteria, combined with economic diversification, have formed an attractive hub not only for the Middle East but also for Asia and Africa.”
He added: “Dubai excels in infrastructure and quality services, with world-class district cooling services as one of the best environmental sustainability practices.”
The CEO went on to state that the recent accolade will further engage organisations involved in energy in Dubai, to explore new avenues within sustainability. These include new approaches in reducing energy resource consumption, as well as wastage rates.
One of the company’s recent advances saw the switch towards a Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) system. Reportedly saving millions of gallons of fresh water, Empower have also developed technology that re-uses water in district cooling operations.
“Sustainability is a new business approach in line with global requirements. It raises investment efficiency and provides higher ROI. We have seen this at close range in our sustainable transformation across Dubai," concluded Bin Shafar.
