Officials say the Riyadh Metro project has not been delayed.

The Riyadh Metro project is progressing to schedule despite a slowdown in developments due to global oil prices.

Riyadh governor, Prince Faisal Bin Bandar, confirmed the $22.5bn (SAR84.4bn) development has not been impacted by international economic changes.

He added: "There are many stalled projects all over the world and not in the Kingdom alone, but the metro project in the Saudi capital is proceeding according to plan."

The development's original completion date was scheduled for 2018.

The governor added challenges had indeed been faced while carrying out the projects, but construction efforts will ensure the project meets its social targets.

The Riyadh Metro is also called King Abdulaziz Project for Public Transportation, according to Arab News.
