Gloria hotel brand awarded GGC certification
Both the Gloria Hotel and Yassat Gloria Hotel & Apartments properties reportedly reduced utility bills by over $1.08mn in 2015.
Gloria Hotel and Yassat Gloria Hotel and Apartments have been awarded Green Globe Certification (GGC), saving $1.08m (AED 4.16m) on utility bills in 2015.
Both properties received scores of 73 and 75% respectively following an audit conducted by UAE-based FM provider Farnek, Green Globe’s preferred partner in the Middle East.
Additionally, the two properties have announced goals to further improve their overall scores by 2% next year.
Sandrine Le Biavant, director consultancy at Farnek, commented: “These results were achieved through passion, dedication and teamwork, which involved not just members of staff, but also the senior management team and the owners of the hotel, all clearly determined to reap the environmental, social and commercial benefits of Green Globe Certification.”
In addition to reducing water and electricity consumption, Gloria Hotel and Yassat Gloria introduced a waste reduction campaign, which reportedly saved 123 tons of waste.
This was accomplished through improved segregation of recycling materials and a dedicated waste management process.
Freddy Farid, area general manager of Gloria Hotels and Resorts, said, “Working closely with Farnek, we have made tremendous progress to achieve certification. The key milestones were energy savings of more than 8,580 megawatt hours (MWh) and 54,000 cubic metres (m3) of water, as recorded by Farnek’s benchmarking software - Hotel Optimizer, which is the equivalent of 22 Olympic-sized swimming pools.”
He added: “We also reduced our carbon emissions by 4,400 tonnes, which is the same as flying to London and back four times.”
