UAE's Masdar bags funding for thermal research
An agreement with Norwegian firm EnergyNest will further the UAE master developer's thermal energy storage facility at Masdar Institute Solar Platform
The Masdar Institute of Science and Technology (Masdar) and Norwegian company, EnergyNest, inked an agreement to intensify research on the former's thermal energy storage (TES) pilot facility at the Masdar Institute Solar Platform (MISP).
Masdar said such operations will help achieve thermal cycling milestones in order to upgrade the facility.
EnergyNest will provide technical support funding for a team of seven engineers and technicians who will be working at the TES facility.
The thermal energy system is expected to be 30% to 70% cheaper than conventional technologies.
Dr. Behjat Al Yousuf, Interim Provost at Masdar Institute, said: "The agreement with EnergyNest to appoint support personnel further consolidates our efforts to lead research in solar energy technologies as directed by the UAE leadership.
"We believe the agreement will move the project to its next stage and expedite the process towards achieving sustainable solutions."
