Qatargas has delivered its first consignment of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) cargo to Port Qasim in Pakistan.

The delivery is under a new long term supply agreement between Qatargas and Pakistan State Oil Company (PSO)

Al Gattara, a chartered Qatargas LNG Vessel, owned and operated by Nakila marked the inaugural Q-Flex delivery to Pakistan, after departing Ras Laffan, Qatar, on February 26, The Peninsula reported.

With this delivery to Port Qasim, the Qatargas chartered Q-Flex fleet achieved compatibility with 60 LNG terminals globally, while the larger Q-Max vessels are presently compatible with 32 LNG terminals worldwide.

In April 2015, Qatargas delivered the first commissioning cargo to PSO on board the LNG vessel Excelerate Exquisite, a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) vessel.

This vessel is currently moored at Pakistan’s first LNG import terminal, the Engro LNG terminal in Port Qasim.

Qatargas chief executive officer, Sheikh Khalid Bin Khalifa Al Thani said: “This is a significant milestone for Qatargas as we celebrate the first LNG cargo to Pakistan on a Qatargas vessel under the long term agreement… we are very pleased that the first Q-Flex cargo has been safely delivered.

“We look forward to a safe and successful relationship with all stakeholders as we celebrate the successful first Q-Flex delivery of this important new agreement.”

This latest achievement by Qatargas followed many months of careful preparations in conjunction with ship-owner, the Port Qasim Authority (PQA).

Preparations for this achievement included the introduction of specific procedures for Q-Flex vessels and necessitated the expertise of master mariners from Qatargas and the PQA Pilots.

This marks the first Q-Flex LNG delivery to Pakistan under a 15-year sales and purchase agreement, further strengthening the relationship between both companies.

Overall, this achievement underscores Qatargas’ capability to supply LNG to customers around the globe, both safely and reliably.
