Cofely Besix Facility Management (CBFM) has been awarded a three-year contract to deliver an integrated FM service to Aldar Academies.

As per the contract, the IFM provider will manage all five schools under Aldar Academies, located across Al Ain and Abu Dhabi. The company has assigned over 85 personnel to the project.

CBFM’s service package will comprise of both hard and soft FM services. This includes the operations and maintenance of electrical systems, HVAC and ventilation, BMS, and fire and life systems.

The FM provider also manage each school’s BMS, deliver a 24-hour MEP service, oversee both the internal and external building fabric and structure, swimming pool maintenance and landscaping.

Commenting on the complexities of the project, Ian Harfield, CEO of Cofely Besix Facility Management, said: “A school or educational establishment is quite different from a standard commercial property given that the main occupants are children.”

“For example, we have to make sure all the sockets are covered with blanks, when patrolling before school starts, and we need to do thorough check for any breakage that could cause danger or injury to pupils and staff.”

The CEO also added that his company’s security arm will maintain the daily perimeter fence and gate check. CBFM will also secure, “all out of bound areas” to ensure that both staff and students remain safe at all times.

“It is also important to make sure that we use appropriate barriers to protect pupils and staff when carrying out reactive works and to avoid areas in the school that are occupied when carrying out planned preventative maintenance,” added Harfield.
