kgdmt | architects + engineers secured the Hospitality Project of the Year Award at the Construction Week Oman Awards 2016.

The company received the accolade in recognition of its work at Alila Salalah Project. The award was presented at a gala dinner and winners’ ceremony, which took place in Muscat last night.

As part of its work at Alila Salalah Project, kgdmt | architects + engineers instigated and controlled the project using its RIBA BIM [building information modelling] toolkit. This approach enabled the firm to manage various sub-consultants in a systematic manner.

Commenting on the award, Ranjay Judge, director of kgdmt | architects + engineers, said: “Alila Salalah Project is a luxury resort – 120 keys – based in Salalah by the beach. We’re trying to create a new design architecture for Oman and the Middle East, so we believe it’s quite revolutionary.

“kgdmt became involved in this development around six years ago. We conducted the initial concept design and then it was put on the back-burner because of financial issues from the client. It was taken up by Oman Investment Fund (OIF) last year, and since then, we’ve completely redesigned it and brought it into the 21st century.

“We’ve tried to future-proof the hotel for the next 15 to 20 years; not only in terms of the way it’s constructed, but also in relation to how it functions after construction,” Judge added.

Construction Week’s panel of judges praised the winning nomination for its efficiency of delivery, citing the effective use of technology to ensure high standards at the hospitality project.

Other shortlisted nominations for the Hospitality Project of the Year Award included the Grand Millennium Muscat, and Kempinski Hotel & Residence.

Construction Week would like to thank its panel of industry judges for selecting the ultimate winners of this year’s awards categories.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to this year’s sponsors, without whom the CW Oman Awards would not be possible. The event was held in partnership with The Big Show Oman, Gold Category Sponsors Aecom and FAMCO, Category Sponsors Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) and S&T Interiors and Contracting, and Official Aluminium Extruder, National Aluminium Products Company (NAPCO).
