CW Oman Awards: Sustainable Project honoured
Check out the project which was crowned Sustainable Project of the Year at the Construction Week Oman Awards 2016
Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) scooped the Sustainable Project of the Year Award at the Construction Week Oman Awards 2016.
The contractor secured the accolade in recognition of its corporate headquarters in Muscat. The trophy was presented during a gala dinner and winners’ ceremony held in Muscat last night.
Commenting on the award, Samir Thabet, sustainability coordination manager at CCC, said: “We built our project according to LEED. We paid more money [to do so], especially in this market.
“There is little demand for LEED [in Oman]. We even struggled to procure LEED-appropriate materials. There isn’t a great deal of awareness in this market.
“But as a contractor, it is CCC’s vision to be a leader within the field of sustainability. If we can establish the first LEED-accredited building in Muscat – and it is our headquarters – our clients will recognise that. We are leading by example, and this is the vision of our company’s management,” Thabet told Construction Week.
CCC Corporate Headquarters aims to achieve a minimum LEED-2009 certification from the US Green Building Council. If successful, the completed structure will represent one of the first LEED-certified buildings in Muscat.
The project was praised by Construction Week’s panel of industry judges for its many sustainable features. In the words of one panel member: “It’s nice to see a contractor leading by example and investing in its own [sustainable] facilities.”
Also shortlisted in the Sustainable Project category were Carillion Alawi LLC’s Eco House Project, and Port Sultan Qaboos Redevelopment by Atkins and Five Oceans.
Construction Week would like to thank its panel of industry judges for selecting the ultimate winners of this year’s awards categories.
We would also like to extend our gratitude to this year’s sponsors, without whom the CW Oman Awards would not be possible. The event was held in partnership with The Big Show Oman, Gold Category Sponsors Aecom and FAMCO, Category Sponsors Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) and S&T Interiors and Contracting, and Official Aluminium Extruder, National Aluminium Products Company (NAPCO).
