Knauf addresses fire safety concerns in Dubai, UAE
In conjunction with Dubai Civil Defence, Knauf Insulation has addressed the dangers that construction products pose to buildings' facades
Knauf Insulation used Dubai Civil Defence's 6th Annual Fire Safety Technology Forum UAE as a platform to address the dangers that construction products pose to buildings' facades.
The company identified a selection of contemporary design elements, such as ventilated facades and metal-faced sandwich panels, as potential fire hazards due to built-in combustible thermal insulation.
The majority of recent advancements within the sector have focused on addressing issues of sustainability, whilst adhering to green building regulations. By comparison, fire safety regulations have been unable to keep pace, according to insulation firm.
Commenting at the event, Barry Lynham, group director of strategy and communications at Knauf Insulation and president of Fire Safe Europe, said: "Whilst our high-rise constructions in Europe are dwarfed by the super-high-rise buildings of the UAE, our challenge is far from small. We have an enormous common task: to regulate for resilience and ensure the long-term safety of high-rise buildings."
Lynham added that by partnering with organisations like Fire Safe Europe, Knauf Insulation has been supporting policy makers to remedy dangerous discrepancies in regional fire safety regulations.
"[We must all] ensure that fire safety codes for buildings and testing protocols for construction products are rigorous and performance based," he concluded.
