GAC EnvironHull launches fuel savings calculator
GAC EnvironHull’s online tool allows ship owners and operators to calculate fuel savings offered by efficient hull-cleaning methods
GAC EnvironHull has introduced an online tool that allows shipping firms to calculate fuel savings offered by efficient hull-cleaning methods.
By maintaining foul-free hulls, ship owners can reduce water resistance and therefore enhance the fuel efficiency and lower the operating costs of their vessels.
Effective hull cleaning can lead to fuel-related savings of up to 10%, according to GAC EnvironHull.
The UAE-based firm’s online calculator enables users to compare the savings achieved through different hull-cleaning techniques.
“Commenting on the tool, Robert Anderson, technical director at GAC EnvironHull, said: “This new tool gives users an easy way to plan their rute, calculate, and compare savings. With it, they can make an informed decision about which hull-cleaning system to use to optimise their vessel’s performance and profit.”
The technology factors in a ship’s size, speed, voyage, fuel type, temperature, and anti-fouling coating to calculate fuel-related savings. The tool can be used for a range of vessels, including bulk carriers, container ships, LNG/LPG vessels, and tankers.
GAC EnvironHull’s calculator also accounts for hidden costs associated with the use of brushes or other abrasives, which can damage coatings.
In addition to determining fuel-related savings, the tool is designed to highlight the advantages of GAC EnvironHull’s HullWiper remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The system does not require divers, and uses pressurised water jets to dislodge and remove fouling without damaging vessels’ coatings.
The savings calculator is compatible with PCs, laptops, tablets, and smartphones.
