Qatar Rail has become a full member of the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM), a globally recognised not for profit membership foundation, that brings together organisations that are striving for sustainable excellence.
Eng. Hamad Al Bishri, Qatar Rail deputy CEO commented: “Becoming a member of the world renowned business excellence organization EFQM, means that we are able to utilise and benefit from what is one of the most widely used international performance models.

Driven by Qatar Rail’s Quality, Health & Safety, Environment, Security & Emergency (QSHESE) Department, the initiative is able to utilise the EFQM's wide-ranging management structure, equipping Qatar Rail will have the necessary tools to achieve the superior and sustainable levels of performance expected by all its stakeholders.
The European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) was founded in 1989 and is committed to helping organisations to drive improved performance through the EFQM Excellence model, a comprehensive management framework used by over 30,000 organisations in Europe.
Through its network of members comprising private and public establishments, EFQM applies its knowledge and achieves outstanding methods by collaborating with executives and front-line managers.
Following its establishment in 2011, Qatar Rail is responsible for the design, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the entire rail network and systems in Qatar, and will manage Qatar’s rail network once operating.
The railway network will consist of Doha Metro, a rapid transit system connecting communities within Doha and its suburbs, Lusail Light Rail Transit (LLRT), a tram service for convenient travel within the new city of Lusail and the Long Distance Passenger and Freight Network, better linking Qatar to the region.
The first phase of the Doha Metro project is expected to be complete in 2020, while completion of the Lusail Tram is set for 2020.
