Vetrotech's wide-range of fire-resistant and high-security glass are being embraced by contractors, specifiers and installers in the Middle Eastern market.

This has led to the integration of Vetrotech products at a number of prominent Middle Eastern locations, including New York University (Abu Dhabi branch).

Established in 2010, in partnership with New York University, the Abu Dhabi branch is based on Saadiyat Island.

The university had a very complex requirement. It demanded a 1 hour and 2 hour fire resistance (both integrity and insulation) doors and curtain walls with sound reduction of up to 48 db, best served by the utilisation of the Vetrotech range.

The multi-comfort characteristics commonly associated with Vetrotech, as well as the complete insulation, integrity, and design freedom the Vetrotech collection offers made it the most evident choice of glazing solution.

There was a glass skylight requirement, to draw in natural sunlight and create an inviting working environment for students, with an EI 120 walkable floor also fitted for additional solar energy gain benefits; the first time this has been put to the test as per American standards.

The profiles used for the skylight were designed in partnership with White Aluminium, the leading specialist in aluminium curtain wall, architectural glass in the Middle East, and together with Vetrotech they rigorously tested the glass. White Aluminium were also contracted to install the skylight, something they’re well accustomed to doing.

Some areas of the university also demanded the installation of low iron glass to minimise absorption levels and maximise solar gain; all as per American standards.

The glasses were fitted by installation partners Tecfire, a leading company in glazed fire protection engineering & Dubai Metal Industries LLC, specialists in high quality, bespoke architectural products and installations in stainless steel, aluminum & glass.

Gopikrishnan TM, business head - Fire Resistant Glass (Vetrotech division), said: “The specification of Vetrotech at the Abu Dhabi branch of New York University is further evidence of us delivering the perfect fire glass solutions to fulfil even the most complex projects.

"This challenging assignment required us to call upon all of our 35 years’ worth of expertise and pioneering knowledge on fire glass to satisfy and exceed the client’s expectations.”
