1. Abdul Latif Jameel to invest $2bn in Saudi Arabia

The Abdul Latif Jameel group announced plans to internally fund investments of close to $2bn in the country over the next five years, with $500m already earmarked for 2016.

The proposed investments form part of long-term expansion plans in the Saudi market across sectors including automotive, logistics and heavy equipment, and are expected to create thousands of jobs.

2. Tokyo Freight receives 58 Volvo tractor heads

Doha Marketing Services Company (Domasco) delivered 58 Volvo FM 400 4X2 tractor head trucks to Tokyo Freight Services, a freight forwarding and shipping company, in Qatar.

This purchase more than doubled the operational fleet of Tokyo Freight Services, which was founded in 1992, in the Qatar market, where it was previously stated to possess 52 vehicles.

3. Kuwait’s Integrated Logistics buys 24 Grove cranes

Integrated Logistics purchased 24 Grove all-terrain units from Manitowoc Cranes in additions aimed at driving growth within the oil and gas sector, according to the Kuwait-headquartered rental outfit.

The 100t and 130t models, in addition to several 300t and 400t units will be sent to work on Kuwaiti refineries, and add to a 600-strong fleet with mobile cranes ranging from 50t to 2,300t across Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

4. Haulotte provides 150 units for $22bn Riyadh Metro

Roots Group Arabia (RGA) supplied 150 Haulotte machines to support the construction of Saudi Arabia’s $22bn Riyadh Metro project – primarily articulated booms ranging in size from 20m to 41m, and HT23RTJ telescopic booms.

The distributor also supplied a selection of Haulotte HTL4017 telehandlers to support digging works in Riyadh Metro’s tunnels. The project is scheduled to complete before the end of 2018.

5. Liebherr-Betonpumpen delivers 12 concrete pumps to Jordan

Liebherr-Betonpumpen delivered 12 ‘50 M5 XXT model’ truck-mounted concrete pumps with 50m-long booms to the Manaseer Group in Jordan, in the largest individual order for the Liebherr concrete pump division.

Unveiled to the public for the first time and symbolically handed over to Manaseer Group at Bauma, the units will be used on projects across Jordan, including one of the first rail stations in Amman.

6. Chicago Pneumatic provides 80 gensets to power Riyadh Metro work

Roots Group Arabia delivered 80 Chicago Pneumatic CPSG stationary generators to the BACS consortium working on Riyadh Metro – one of the world’s largest metro systems – scheduled for completion in 2018.

The distributor convince BACS to make the order for 20 ‘CPSG185’ 185 KWmodels, 30 ‘CPSG40’ 40 KW models, and another 30 ‘CPSG18’ 18 KW models – in addition to aftersales support – in an order worth $975,000.

7. Daimler signs deal with Iran Khodro, Mammut Group

Daimler Trucks paved the way for its return to the Iranian market with the signing of letters of intent with both Iran Khodro Diesel (IKD) and the Dubai-based industrial contractor Mammut Group.

The areas of cooperation include a JV for local production of Mercedes-Benz trucks and powertrain components and the establishment of Iranian sales operations for these products in Q1 2016.

8. Konecranes delivers 13 port vehicles to DP World

Finland’s Konecranes delivered 13 ‘empty container handlers’ (ECH) to Dubai-based port operator DP World for use in the container operations at its flagship Jebel Ali Port in the UAE.

The Konecranes SMV 7/8 ECC 90 can stack containers seven units high, and has a cabin equipped with low, corner-less windows for increased visibility and fewer blind spots.

9. Pfaff-silberblau signs Riyadh Metro lifting deal

German lifting equipment company Pfaff-silberblau secured the contracts for underfloor lifting systems and mobile lifting jacks for use on the Riyadh Metro with all three consortiums working on the $22.5bn project.

The lifting systems, which can perform lift entire metro trains with gross weights of up to 144t to ergonomic working heights, will as a result be used for all maintenance work on the subway trains for the 176km rail network.

10. KBW brings Ascorel technologies to the region

Dubai-based investment concern, KBW Investments, owned by Saudi prince Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal, has formed a partnership with French heavy equipment technology manufacturer Ascorel.

The agreement, signed by Ahmed Alkhoshaibi, group CEO of KBW Investments, and Francis-Pierre Lemahieu, president of the Ascorel Group, marked the creation of Ascorel Middle East, which will focus on markets in the Gulf and across the MENA region.
