Dubai's DEWA hosts EmiratesGBC air quality session

The seminar addressed issues related to indoor air quality and the importance of regularly cleaning and maintaining ventilation systems

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) recently hosted a seminar titled ‘The Impact of Interiors on Air Quality’, organised by the Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC).

The event was hosted at DEWA’s Sustainable Building in Al Quoz, Dubai. 

Up to 33 green building specialists, all members of the EmiratesGBC, attended the seminar.

EmiratesGBC's seminar addressed issues related to indoor air quality and regulations that govern paints and solvents based on their volatile organic compound (VOC) content.

Saeed Al Abbar, chairman of EmiratesGBC, said indoor air quality could improve occupants' productivity. 

“Improving indoor air quality is a key facet of sustainable buildings impacting the wellness of residents and productivity of employees in the long run," he continued.

"Through simple, actionable steps, such as the usage of the right products and proper ventilation systems, indoor air quality can be improved contributing to a greener and cleaner building." 

The session also addressed the importance of raising awareness on selecting the right equipment and paints that maintain the quality of air, as well as regularly cleaning and maintaining ventilation systems. 

Remarking at the event, HE Saeed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, said the agency's Al Quoz building is a "model" for sustainable property development. 

"[DEWA's Al Quoz facility] is a model for green buildings and increasing dependence on clean and renewable energy resources," he added.

A team from DEWA accompanied EmiratesGBC participants on a tour of the building, which is the UAE's first sustainable govermnent property, and the world's largest government building to receive LEED Platinum rating.
