Emirates NBD provides A/C vests for UAE labourers
The air conditioned vests, which were distributed to UAE labourers during Ramadan, reduce the wearer’s body temperature by 5°C to 7°C for up to eight hours
Construction workers in the UAE were given air-conditioned (A/C) vests during Ramadan as part of an initiative spearheaded by Emirates NBD.
The A/C vests are made of special cooling fabric, and function with the aid of water.
After being submerged in water for five to 10 minutes, the vests reduce wearers’ body temperatures by 5°C to 7°C for up to eight hours.
Speaking in a promotional video produced by Emirates NBD, one construction worker said: “This vest is very effective in beating the heat. It should be given to all labourers in Dubai and back at home too.”
Another labourer added: “The best thing is it doesn’t need a fridge. It only needs water; it’s that easy and that good.”
In a statement released alongside the video, Emirates NBD said: “Since we couldn’t change the weather conditions around [the construction workers], we instead empowered them to take those weather conditions on.
“[We] introduced the A/C vests – an innovative and meaningful idea that keeps the labourers cool using something that’s easily available across all labour camps and construction sites: water.”
Emirates NBD is now offering help to business owners and entrepreneurs who are interested in scaling the A/C vest idea, or implementing the technology to benefit their workforces.
