Watch: A mock-up of the Riyadh Metro by Alstom
The official unveiling of Alstom’s Metropolis trainsets mock-up is considered to be the first key milestone of the transit system project
A full-size mock-up of the Riyadh Metropolis trains manufactured by Alstom was unveiled by FAST consortium during an event last month in Saudi Arabia.
The model was launched in the presence of the governor of Riyadh, His Highness Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, as well as other dignitaries.
This official unveiling of Alstom’s Metropolis trainsets mock-up is considered to be the first key milestone of the transit system project, in parallel with the start of track works by Alstom, as a part of the track joint venture.
The full size car mock-up is a 36m long and it reflects the real size of Alstom Metropolis trains.
More than 4,500 Metropolis trains were sold to over 20 cities. Metropolis offers a large range of options and configurations, a high level of passenger comfort and innovative features to optimize the energy consumption and the life cycle costs.
This event also marked the completion of the Line 5 tunnel, which is the first tunnel completion for FAST consortium.
The FAST consortium was awarded a contract in 2013 to build the Yellow, Green and Purple lines of the Riyadh Metro project, spanning a total of 64 km.
