A fire has gutted three shops in Abu Dhabi.

The blaze took place on 10 August and started in the building of Baniyas Cooperative Society, which is located on the road between Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

Three shops were destroyed by the fire, but no casualties were reported as a result of the incident.

State news agency, WAM, said the fire started at around 4.45pm.

Lt Colonel Mohammed Abdul Jalil Al Ansari, director-general of Abu Dhabi Civil Defence, said his teams rushed to the scene immediately and prevented the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings.

Al Ansari called on owners of businesses and of warehouses to ensure their properties meet safety requirements, make sure that all electrical wiring is sound and safe, and avoid overloading power transformers.
