Vetrotech Saint-Gobain, one of the leading manufacturers of fire-rated glazing and framing, unveiled its new security glass product, Protect.

Protect includes Vetrogard and Polygard, which can withstand many forms of attack. These high-security glass products protect against the forcible use of tools – from a simple heavy-duty spanner to the most powerful drilling and grinding machines.

Vetrotech’s bullet-resistant glass protects against firearms with the heaviest calibres, up to 20mm. And their blast-resistant glass protects against explosive devices, with the capability to resist pressure loading in excess of 200kPa.

A company statement read: "When investing in bullet and blast-resistant glass, you want to be completely sure that it works and Vetrotech offer that reassurance - thanks to their ballistic testing laboratory in Germany."

At the ballistic testing laboratory, all security glass is subject to a series of strenuous tests. From handguns to rifles, all products are put through their paces to ensure that they meet the most stringent standards in order to comply with Assessment and Verification of Constancy of Performance (AVCP) system 1.

All of the attack-resistant glass products are also tested against attacks from sledgehammers and other heavy-duty tools as well as firearms and comply with AVCP system 3.

Once Vetrotech has made sure that all of the products, including the Protect range, conform to the required standards, Vetrotech takes the products and carries out continuous research and development to expand their knowledge base, ensuring that no opportunity is missed to make their products safer.

The Protect range was used in the build of the UK Embassy in Warsaw.

The statement continued: "It was important that the glass was resistant and could withstand attacks, blasts and bullets to ensure the safety of employees and possessions within the embassy. Protect bullet and blast resistant glass conforms to AoC level 1, guaranteeing personal safety at all times.

"Safety is paramount and key to the success of Vetrotech’s Protect range. And with security concerns gaining importance in this region, a brand like Vetrotech Saint-Gobain is something customers can trust."
