KEO is leading the first CEEQUAL Assessment to be carried out in Qatar and the Middle East.

The aim of the assessment is to achieve the highest environmental and sustainable performance on Qatar’s Inner Doha Re-Sewerage Implementation Strategy (IDRIS) Program, main trunk sewer packages.

The deep tunnel sewer network and advanced treatment work will supply important drainage infrastructure enhancements for Qatar’s capital city, Doha.

KEO was selected as the Environmental and Sustainability Consultant on the scheme, with its teams managing the CEEQUAL process, including it into every day environmental application and which is anticipated to become the benchmark for infrastructure sustainability in the region.

Services cover the development of construction environmental management plan, waste management plan and environmental risk register, compliance and sustainability.

Running for approximately 16.34km beneath Doha, the inner city main trunk sewer, with an internal tunnel diameter ranging between 3 and 4.5 metres, will reach a depth of between 21 to 41 metres below ground.

The scheme covers a series of underground hydraulic structures responsible for transferring the flow from the lateral interceptor sewers (capture incoming flows at existing pump stations) into the main trunk sewer.

The network consists of seven temporary work shafts (WS) that will later be changed to permanent access shafts and four additional permanent access shafts (AS) located offline in between the work shafts.

Within the project zone, mainly comprising the Doha urban and metropolitan area, resides a mixture of residential, commercial, retail and light industrial land uses, set within a grid of main arterial and minor roads.

The scheme will upgrade and expand the much needed sewerage infrastructure and provide a long-term solution for wastewater treatment and treatment plants to serve the needs of Doha for coming generations.
