DEWA awards $6m contract for Aweer Power Station
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has awarded an advisory services deal for the development of the UAE power plant's 700MW Phase 4
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has awarded a contract for the UAE's Aweer Power Station.
The $6.1m (AED22.2m) advisory services deal has been handed to an undisclosed company.
Works carried out under the contract will pertain to the Phase 4 of the Aweer Power Station H development.
According to HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and chief executive officer of DEWA, the project is aimed at testing, supplying, and installing three natural gas turbines with a total capacity of 700MW.
"The first turbine will be operational by 1 January, 2020, the second on 1 March, 2020, and the third on 30 April, 2020," he added.
At present, the Aweer Power Station H's total capacity is 1,974MW: 607MW is produced by the first phase, 421MW by the second phase, and 946MW by the third phase.
Once the 700MW fourth phase is complete, the station will have a total capacity of 2,674MW.
