Arabtec, Bentley cut costs by 30% at Fairmont site
Arabtec and Bentley have revealed how they cut delivery costs by 30% and saved 1,000 man-days at a Fairmont Hotels project in Abu Dhabi

Bentley tools enabled Arabtec to cut delivery costs by 30% and save 1,000 man-days at a Fairmont Hotels and Resorts project in the UAE, according to the technology outfit.
UAE-based Arabtec used AECOsim, MicroStation, and Bentley Navigator to manage information and connect data at the $220m (AED808m) hotel build in Abu Dhabi.
Auto-generated i-models allowed the contractor to reduce the duration of the 30-month project by 1,000 man-days, and reduce delivery and operational costs by 30%, according to Bentley.
Commenting on the benefits provided by the software, Arabtec Construction’s Ahmed Balawi said: “Bentley provided a flexible, extendable, and robust platform for content creation and project information management with i-models at the heart.”
A case study released by Bentley stated: “AECOsim Building Designer, MicroStation, and Bentley Navigator provided a flexible and robust platform for content creation and project information management with i-models at the heart.
“This set-up allowed for 4D [and] 5D integration and site management for the project at tender, post tender, and construction stages. During the different stages of the project, 1,240 models and 2,100 revisions were automatically generated,” Bentley added.
Located in Abu Dhabi’s breakwater district, the five-star hotel project involved the construction of apartments, sports facilities, retail outlets, and ancillary buildings.
The Fairmont resort occupies an area of more than 17.6ha, and features two towers of more than 38 storeys.
