Caterpillar launches 950L and 962L wheel loaders
Cat L-Series medium wheel loaders deliver performance boost and 10% fuel use reduction
Caterpillar has launched the Cat L-Series of medium wheel loaders, the 950L and 962L. More powerful and fuel-efficient than their predecessors, the machines come with drive-train and hydraulic-system refinement, Z-bar linkage, Cat Connect telematics and an automatic traction control option.
Through rigorous design and machine validation processes, Caterpillar claims to deliver unmatched reliability, high uptime, and durability — with heavy-duty driveline components: Cat-designed ACERT engines, transmissions and axles that reduce the risk of premature wear.
The power-dense 950L and 962L use a productive and fuel-efficient Cat C7.1 ACERT engine with maximum power ratings of 195kW and operating weights of 18 and 19 tonnes, respectively.
These refined Cat ACERT engines represent an increase in engine power of 22% in the 950L and 8% in the 962L compared to H-Series — greatly improving performance and response.
The 950L and 962L also use a 5F/3R countershaft power-shift transmission — a high-capacity torque converter that uses a lock-up clutch for efficient grade and high-speed performance, together with the Cat APEC control system, to maintain torque flow during range shifts for faster acceleration on ramps and smoother shifts in the transmission’s direct-drive mode.
As a result of the various powertrain features, both the 950 and 962L are more powerful and use up to 10% less fuel compared with their H-Series predecessors.
In addition, the Integrated Braking System (IBS) regulates downshifting in proportion to the required braking force, resulting in smoother downshifts, increased deceleration control and longer brake life.
To expand the versatility of L-Series models, the range is also available with the Cat Fusion Coupler System to allow tools such as forks, grapple buckets, dozer blades, rakes, and ploughs, the available to be rapidly interchanged while providing performance that is virtually identical to pin-on tools.
