Bahrain: Alba hands power station deal to Siemens

The power station design will provide Alba with a flexible and redundant network to ensure power availability in all scenarios

Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) has awarded a power distribution system (PDS) contract for Power Station 5 (PS 5) to Siemens.

Siemens will be responsible for design, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of high-voltage electrical network, comprising distribution switchgears and transformers to expand Alba’s electrical network.

It will also provide gas insulated switchgear (GIS) up to 220kV.

The design will provide Alba with a flexible and redundant network to ensure power availability in all scenarios.

Alba’s chairman of the board, Shaikh Daij Bin Salman Bin Daij Al Khalifa, said: “Alba’s Line 6 Expansion Project is an important part of our growth strategy and we aim to implement an efficient and reliable distribution system for high-quality power supply. We have chosen Siemens not only for their technological expertise in the power sector but also for their competitive financial bid in this Project.

"I would like to add that I am proud of the transparent and diligent evaluation followed during the tendering process for Line 6 Expansion Project. I thank Alba’s executive management led by the CEO Tim Murray for their relentless efforts in maintaining clarity and ensuring that all processes are in strict compliance with Alba’s corporate governance values."
