A massive fire broke out at a high-rise construction site in Abu Dhabi on 30 August.

Firefighters fought the blaze at the 28-storey building, currently under construction, located close to Abu Dhabi Mall, alongside the bridge to Al Reem Island and Maryah Island.

Associated Press quoted a statement from the adjacent Beach Rotana Abu Dhabi hotel, saying that the fire started at 11:15am local time.

Authorities ordered hundreds of workers at the hotel to be evacuated an hour and a half later.

There were no reported casualties.

News agency WAM issued a statement saying the crisis and emergency teams in Abu Dhabi "have been trying to extinguish the fire that broke out in a 28-storey building under construction with logistic support from Civil Defence".
