Bahrain will develop a $119.4m (BHD45m) cultural project in Muharraq.

His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has endorsed the mega development.

The project links Muharraq's historical souq with a waterfront and related services, such as recreational, tourism, and commercial facilities.

A pedestrian bridge will connect the market and the waterfront.

The project features a 500-car multi-storey car park, a hotel, and a souq that will be built on the current location of the Muharraq Post.

Project plans also include a boat harbour, a walkway, and an area for restaurants and cafes.

The project also includes a souq that is an extension to the old Muharraq Market, state agency BNA reported.

A construction timeline for the project is yet to be revealed.
