Dubai Wholesale City is now open to long-term lease applications from prospective business partners.
Set to become the largest city of its kind in the world, the development’s backers have invited companies and traders to register their interest in potential partnerships.
Dr Amina Al Rustamani, group chief executive officer of Tecom Group, said that Dubai Wholesale City will contribute to the UAE’s national economic diversification efforts.
Commenting during the announcement, Dr Al Rustamani said: “Dubai Wholesale City is a key contributor to the efforts of Tecom Group in articulating [the post-oil vision of] His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai.
“Increasing [Tecom Group’s] sector offering to seven with the launch of the world’s largest wholesale city, these sectors are considered pillars of the UAE economy. Dubai Wholesale City plays an integral role in consolidating Dubai’s position as a regional capital and international centre for trade and business.
“It will increase the contribution of the UAE’s wholesale trading sector close to 10% by 2030. The progress on the development and planning of the AED30bn [$8.2bn] destination hub, set to span over 550-million square feet [5,110ha], is going according to plan,” Dr Al Rustamani added.
Dubai Wholesale City is designed to offer traders and companies the infrastructure, cargo, customs, insurance, finance, waste management, and industrial hygiene services necessary to achieve operational efficiency.
The development also boasts links to Al Maktoum International Airport, Jebel Ali Port, and the future Etihad Rail project.
Dubai Wholesale City will showcase leasing opportunities at Cityscape Global 2016, which will take place from 6-8 September at Dubai World Trade Centre.
