A portion of a new road connecting Sharjah and Dubai has been opened in the UAE.

The country's Ministry of Infrastructure Development inaugurated the sloping road, which is being developed to serve workers commuting from Sharjah to Dubai.

Three lanes of 2km have been constructed ahead of the sloping road that will link the two emirates.

The road is part of the ministry's $54.4m (AED200m) Al Badea project, which includes the development of an intersection between Sharjah's Emirates Road and Maliha Road.

Eng Hassan Al Mansouri, Assistant Under-Secretary for the ministry's works sector, underscored the organisation's aims to complete the project as scheduled, WAM reported.

The Al Badea mega project is expected to be completed by the end of 2017, according to local daily Khaleej Times.
