S&T Interiors and Contracting won a silver award at the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2016.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) presented the award to the Oman-based contractor during a ceremony in the United Kingdom in September.

The RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards are designed to recognise overarching occupational health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

Commenting on the accolade, Wayne Taylor, group head of health, safety and environment (HSE) at S&T, said: “The health and safety of our clients, staff, and workmen has always been a top priority. We are delighted to have been graded at silver level in our first year participating in the awards.

“Creating a risk-free environment is our aim, and winning this award is a fantastic tribute to all the staff at S&T. I am proud that the HSE team has been able to create deliverable, practical approaches with its collaborative efforts. Their openness to listening to feedback and building an ethos of positive responsibility has reaped results,” he noted.

Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of awards and events, added: “To win an award at such a highly-regarded event as the RoSPA Awards is a great achievement for our winners. It recognises their commitment to maintaining an excellent health and safety record, and raises the bar for other organisations to aspire to. We offer them our congratulations.

“This year was doubly special for our winners as their achievements were recognised as the RoSPA Awards celebrated its diamond anniversary, which is a ringing endorsement of the thousands of businesses and organisations that have committed to continuous improvement in accident and ill-health prevention,” she added.

The majority of the RoSPA Awards are non-competitive and mark achievement at merit, bronze, silver, and gold levels. Competitive awards go to the best entries in 24 industry sectors, including construction, healthcare, transport and logistics, engineering, manufacturing, and education.

There are also specialist awards for occupational health, environmental management and fleet safety.

The 60th RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards were held in Glasgow, UK.
