KSA: World’s largest maritime yard signs designers
Royal HaskoningDHV and Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co have been selected to design the world’s largest maritime yard in Ras Al-Khair, Saudi Arabia
A consortium between Royal HaskoningDHV and Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co has been selected to design the world’s largest maritime yard in Ras Al-Khair, Saudi Arabia.
Under the terms of the deal, the firms will conduct front-end engineering design (FEED) activities for the facility’s infrastructure.
Once completed, the maritime yard will be able to accommodate large shipbuilding activities, large ship repairs, offshore rig fabrication, and offshore support vessel repairs.
The maritime yard will be the largest of its kind anywhere in the world.
Commenting on the contract, Adrian Arnold, project director at Royal HaskoningDHV, said: “Maritime yards must be globally competitive with facilities that are cost effective, operationally flexible, and durable.
“This project combines four different yards into a single development, creating significant opportunities for economies of scale and enhancing the country’s economic development.”
The Ras Al-Khair maritime yard will feature seven fully-equipped dry docks, two basins, five piers, a ship-lift system, workshops, warehouses, and utility service areas. Office buildings, living quarters, and recreational facilities for more than 10,000 workers will also be installed at the site.
Royal HaskoningDHV undertook the initial market study for the maritime yard in 2014.
The FEED development work is expected to take five months to complete.
