Dubai Municipality has announced plans to showcase 16 projects at GITEX Technology Week 2016.

The developments that will be on display form part of the municipality’s smart government index.

As part of the initiative, all applications related to customer service will be converted to smart services, as part of the Smart Dubai initiative.

Mohamed Abdullah Al Zafeen, director of information technology department at Dubai Municipality, said: “We are converting all applications related to these programmes to smart phone applications, and all these applications will be presented at the Dubai Municipality stand at GITEX.”

He added that Al Sa’fat, the green buildings evaluation system launched by Dubai Municipality’s buildings department as part of Dubai Vision 2021, was one of its major recent achievements.

Al Sa’fat sets out the criteria for green building practices throughout a building’s lifecycle. The structure is designed to increase efficiency, reduce energy and water consumption, and promthe use of eco-friendly materials for construction.

Dubai Municipality has also launched a website to support Al Sa'fat, explaining its evaluation system, objectives, and main pillars. The website features a sections relating to green suppliers, green building applications, e-tutorials, and green engineers. An energy consumption calculator has also been made available.

Smart Sustainable Oasis, a facility that allows the public to dispose of recyclable materials, will be among the projects exhibited by Dubai Municipality at GITEX 2016.

The municipality plans to establish 13 such centres as part of its initial phase of developments.

The centres, which will be equipped to handle 18 types of recyclable materials, will be designed intelligently and sustainably in accordance with the highest international standards, according to Al Zafeen.

GITEX Technology Week opened today and will run until Thursday, 20 October, 2016 at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).
