Qatar: “Work-related” death at World Cup stadium

An individual working at Qatar’s Al Wakrah SC Stadium has died.

The incident is the first fatality connected to a 2022 FIFA World Cup stadium project to be described as “work-related” by Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC).

The death occurred on Saturday, 22 October. The SC has not named the individual or disclosed his nationality.

A statement uploaded to the SC’s website read: “It is with deep regret we announce a work-related fatality on one of our projects. Following an incident on Al Wakrah Stadium on Saturday morning, a full investigation is underway to determine the factors which contributed to the death of one of our workers.

“The relevant authorities were immediately informed and the family of the deceased have been notified. We offer them all the necessary support they may need at such a difficult time,” the SC added.
