The Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC) has approved 40 development projects across the UAE capital on Monday, stretching over an area of 700ha.

The projects will raise the percentage of approved development projects to 3%, compared with the same period of 2015, according to Emirates News Agency, WAM.

The UPC also endorsed expansion of the 69,500sqm Mayan residential project, located near Yas Links Golf Course, which will include five state-of-the-art buildings overlooking the sea.

The buildings will provide more than 500 residential unit studios, along with one, two and three-bedroom apartments.

The five new buildings are also seeking to be approved for the Estidama System with one already approved, the UPC added.

Four master plans and 17 projects will be carried out on Abu Dhabi’s islands, while 12 projects and a master plan will be built on the Abu Dhabi mainland, officials added.

The UPC also approved four projects and master plans to be executed in Al Ain city, with another two projects in the Eastern Region.
