BAM receives Estidama rating for Al Ain stadium
The Pearl 2 rating required BAM to obtain sixty credits for certification, which was successfully achieved for the stadium
Dutch developer BAM International announced that the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium has achieved an Estidama 2 Pearl Construction Rating from Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC).
The stadium is first-of-its-kind in the GCC to receive green certification.
The Pearl 2 rating required BAM to obtain sixty credits for certification, which was successfully achieved. Rated areas included the building’s performance in terms of energy, water savings, monitoring, waste management, procurement of sustainable materials, and sustainable planting.
In terms of indoor environmental quality, all adhesives, sealants, paints and coatings used on the building interior had low VOC content, contributing to a more convenient indoor air environment.
The stadium achieved 74% waste recycling during the construction phase and the annual energy and internal water consumption has achieved 22% and 28% savings to date, respectively.
One of the most unique sustainable concept used on the project is the palm bowl façade, which acts as a passive external shading device for the building in order to reflect the solar radiation and reduces the external heat gain of the building.
The use of a palm bowl facade concept contributed to reduction in the overall energy needed for cooling the stadium.
