UAE: DP World signs MoU with Ukraine government

Trade between Dubai and Ukraine amounted to more than $272m in 2015, with the majority being imports to Dubai.

UAE-based DP World has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Ukraine to develop the logistics capability in the country.

DP World Group chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem signed the MoU with the Ukrainian Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan and later met with President Petro Poroshenko, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, senior ministers and officials.

At the meetings, Bin Sulayem also delivered a letter of intent from DP World for its P&O Maritime subsidiary to develop the tug and pilot boat services of Odessa port on the Black Sea.

Sulayem said Ukraine’s geographic location on the Black Sea and potential for investment supported by favourable foreign and domestic policies provide a promising environment for the growth of the logistics sector.

He said: “We see major growth potential for trade on the Black Sea, backed by our Constanta terminal in Romania, helping to connect Far Eastern and regional markets with Europe and the rest of the world."
