Iveco delivers 109 CNG-powered trucks in Madrid
CNH Industrial commercial vehicle brand Iveco continues to press the CNG agenda in Europe with a larger municipal order in Spain
Iveco is delivering a fleet of Stralis heavy trucks equipped with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) engines to the city of Madrid, Spain for use as urban waste collection vehicles.
Fitted with the Cursor 8 CNG engines developed by CNH Industrial’s powertrain brand FPT Industrial, the vehicles deliver a 95% reduction in harmful emissions compared to their diesel counterparts, including 35% less nitrogen oxide gases (NOx).
CNG combustion is routinely less polluting than petrol and the majority of Iveco’s vehicles are ready to run on this alternative fuel. CNH Industrial is also a leader in the development, manufacture and distribution of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and biomethane engines.
To date, the group has produced over 30,000 natural gas engines and 16,000 natural gas vehicles.
There are currently 43 public CNG refuelling stations and 19 LNG stations in Spain, the latter being the most comprehensive country-level LNG infrastructure in Europe.
The heavy on-road trucks were also manufactured in Madrid, at Iveco’s silver-rated World Class Manufacturing (WCM) heavy commercial vehicles facility.
