GAC Dubai has broken ground on a new logistics facility in the UAE.

The logistics firm’s latest facility, which is located in the Logistics District of Dubai South, will supplement its existing premises in Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) and Dubai Airport Freezone (Dafza).

Once complete, the 72,000-pallet Dubai South warehouse will bring GAC Dubai’s total capacity to more than 200,000 pallet positions.

Bengt Ekstrand, GAC’s group president, commented: “As the pioneers of contract logistics in this region, it is natural that we expand our existing footprint to include Dubai South.

“We are very confident in the future of both Dubai and Dubai South, and excited that our new high-spec facility will allow us to meet the growth projections of our loyal customers and attract new ones.”

Ahmed Al Ansari, acting chief executive officer of Dubai South, added: “Dubai South’s Logistics District is designed to optimise speed and efficiency for businesses and companies, and has attracted the best-in-class global brands from the industry.

“A strategic offering designed to consolidate the emirate’s position as a leading logistical hub, our unique location offers seamless connectivity, opening a world of commercial opportunities for businesses. We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with GAC Group.”

The Dubai South facility has been designed to handle a diverse range of GAC Dubai’s product categories, including fast-moving consumer goods, food and beverage (F&B) lines, health and beauty products, and dangerous goods.

The warehouse and its associated facilities will be equipped with an environmentally friendly district-cooling plant, an advanced building management system (BMS), light-emitting diode (LED) technology, and solar power. The facility will also use 100% recycled water.

The three-chamber warehouse and executive office complex is scheduled to complete in Q4 2017.

Operations at the facility are expected to commence in January 2018, according to GAC Dubai.
