Abu Dhabi's Al Dahra Holding and Abu Dhabi Ports inaugurated a $38.1m (AED140m) rice factory at Khalifa Industrial Zone (KIZAD).

The 10ha (100,106 sqm) factory will produce up to 120,000 metric tonnes of rice per annum, with 40 silos each boasting a 750-tonne capacity.

Owned by Al Dahra Kohinoor, a subsidiary of Al Dahra Holding, the factory will carry out activities such as milling, storage, packaging, and distribution within the UAE and to foreign markets through the adjacent Khalifa Port.

The automated facility features storage space worth 8,000 tonnes and a processing unit as well.

Remarking on the development, Khadim Abdulla Al Darei, vice chairman and managing director of Al Dahra Holding, said: "Al Dahra Kohinoor will benefit greatly from its strategic location at KIZAD and proximity to Khalifa Port, which will help it sustain the supply of high quality products to customers at affordable prices."
