Westin Doha, nominated by KEO International Consultants, was crowned Hospitality Project of the Year at the Construction Week Awards 2016.

The project, which opened to the public in March 2016, has been described as a luxurious green oasis that offers an indulgent retreat for GCC-bound tourists.

CW’s panel of industry judges praised the development, one panellist describing it as a landmark hotel designed in a way that is at once stylish and sustainable.

Another judge said that the project a world-class hospitality development.

Chris Reynolds, vice president of design at KEO International Consultants, was accompanied by the company's executive director for corporate sustainability, Holley Chant, to collect the award.

Remarking on the win, Reynolds said: "It feels fantastic to have won, and we'd like to thank all the judges.

"The images of all the competition proved that it was a tough [pick], because it was an amazing group of projects [shortlisted under the category]."

Chant added: "We really believe this kind of approach to sustainable design is a part of modern asset management, and we consider that a hotel is going to have a life cycle where an owner and operator could [use] energy and water performance as a differentiator."

Shaza Doha, which nominated by Faithful+Gould, was named this year’s highly commended hospitality project.

Other shortlisted nominations included Alila Salalah, nominated by KGDMT architects & engineers; Four Seasons Abu Dhabi, nominated by Kone Middle East; Regent Emirates Pearl Hotel, nominated by DeSimone Consulting Engineers; and The Act Hotel, nominated by Draw Link Group.

An independent panel of seven judges, made up from industry professionals from across the GCC and throughout the construction sector, selected winners in 14 categories at the CW Awards 2016.

The event was supported by Platinum Sponsor FAMCO; Gold Sponsors ALEC, ASGC, Faithful+Gould, and Parsons; Silver Sponsors Aconex and Al Manader Road Contracting; Category Sponsors Atkins, Construction Computer Software (CCS), Kone, Multiplex, National Engineering Bureau (NEB), Projacs, Ramboll, and Soprema; Official Aluminium Extruder National Aluminium Products Company Oman (NAPCO); and Social Media Partner WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff.
