Atkins was named Consultant of the Year at the Construction Week Awards 2016.

The company was praised by CW’s panel of industry judges in what was a particularly competitive category.

Describing this year’s Consultant of the Year category as a real clash of the titans, one panel member commented that Atkins stood out from the rest due to its impressive performance and depth of expertise.

The consultancy also received unanimous praise for its work on Dubai Opera, which completed earlier this year.

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff was named this year’s highly commended consultant. In the words of one judge: “Through its hands on approach, WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff continues to deliver and add value for its clients and customers across the Middle East.

The firm was also commended for the breadth of its client portfolio and active geographies.

Tom Hasker, Managing Director – Property Middle East at Atkins said: “I think the opera house project has been celebrated over the last few months since opening, and it’s been a tremendous accolade for the work that has been done. We look forward to doing similar jobs across the Middle East.”

On what makes the project unique, he said: “Whilst Dubai has a very diverse property market, this is the first significant cultural project that it’s had, and we are privileged to be a part of it.”

Hasker said however that he expects 2017 to be “a very tough year” for the industry.

“In talking with my industry colleagues, we have a lot to do in the lead up to the Expo 2020 project, and I think we are all noticing a a tightening of the market, so 2017 looks like its going to be a year for bunkering down. Though high performance consultancies will do well, I think we are going to see a tougher market,” he said.

Other shortlisted nominees included Arcadis, Faithful+Gould, KEO International Consultants, and Parsons.

An independent panel of seven judges, made up from industry professionals from across the GCC and throughout the construction sector, selected winners in 14 categories at the CW Awards 2016.

The event was supported by Platinum Sponsor FAMCO; Gold Sponsors ALEC, ASGC, Faithful+Gould, and Parsons; Silver Sponsors Aconex and Al Manader Road Contracting; Category Sponsors Atkins, Construction Computer Software (CCS), Kone, Multiplex, National Engineering Bureau (NEB), Projacs, Ramboll, and Soprema; Official Aluminium Extruder National Aluminium Products Company Oman (NAPCO); and Social Media Partner WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff.
