Arabian MEP won the Sub-Contractor of the Year Award at the Construction Week Awards 2016.

The Qatar-headquartered company was applauded by CW’s panel of industry judges for the breadth of its projects and clients, and its excellent track record of delivery.

One judge praised Arabian MEP for its strong focus on transparent, ethical delivery within the Qatari market.

ALEC Fitout was named this year’s highly commended sub-contractor. The judging panel was commended not only for the quality of service that it provides, but also for its long-standing relationships with major clients.

M Vasanth Kumar, CEO of Arabian MEP said: I’m on cloud nine.” Holding the trophy in his hands, he adds: This is almost more than a decade of hard work. This is a dream come true for us at Arabian MEP. We have won many awards in the Qatari market and in the MEP sector (which is our core domain), looking into this which is a sub-contractor award, which is broader, the judges have chosen us. It’s great.”

He further said: “We’ve won several awards, but this, I call as the ‘mother’ of all awards. We’ve been trying our best for the last 10 years, and this is the first time we’ve won [a Construction Week award] and it feels great to walk away with it. I’m very happy about it. We were about to give up hope on winning, but when we got the ‘Highly Recommended Award’ last year, we thought let’s put the final push and we won.”

Kumar adds that Arabian MEP won the award as the company is consistent and has a strong leadership. “We’ve been [present] for 20 years in the Qatari market, we haven’t explored other markets [GCC countries]. We’ve seen large MEP contractors, from elsewhere from the region enter Qatar with a lot of experience, but we know ground realities. The ground conditions are completely different in Qatar, and unfortunately, many have to leave the shores.

“Luckily, we are still alive. The MEP market is currently in a period of ‘coma’, because not much projects are coming into the market. The profit margins are [low], and there is a lot of competition out there.”

Other shortlisted nominations included Action International Services, AE Arma-Elektropanç, ALEMCO, and Trans Gulf Electromechanical.

An independent panel of seven judges, made up from industry professionals from across the GCC and throughout the construction sector, selected winners in 14 categories at the CW Awards 2016.

The event was supported by Platinum Sponsor FAMCO; Gold Sponsors ALEC, ASGC, Faithful+Gould, and Parsons; Silver Sponsors Aconex and Al Manader Road Contracting; Category Sponsors Atkins, Construction Computer Software (CCS), Kone, Multiplex, National Engineering Bureau (NEB), Projacs, Ramboll, and Soprema; Official Aluminium Extruder National Aluminium Products Company Oman (NAPCO); and Social Media Partner WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff.
