Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will inaugurate a $40.8m (AED150m) bridge that links to the Deira Islands development on 16 December, 2016.
The waterfront project includes four man-made islands, and numerous hotels, apartments, mixed-use buildings, and marinas.
Implemented by RTA and master developer Nakheel, the project included the construction of a temporary entrance to Deira Islands.
The project also included opening the navigational lane beneath the bridge by removing up to 2 million cubic meters of sand in three landfill areas.
Works also included extending the existing canal walls up to the new fish market marina, in addition to lighting works, sewage, asphalt, shifting and protecting the existing services, and extending services along the bridges.
According to WAM, Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the board of executive directors of RTA, said Nakheel has started infrastructure work for the project's islands and maritime structures.
