Patchi unveils new warehouse project in Al Quoz
Buildmark Contracting won the contract in July 2016, and subsequently work began on the 7,000m2 Patchi warehouse in December with the completion date set for June 2017
Chocolate maker Patchi is aggressively expanding its business in the UAE with five new retail outlets set to open in 2017 and two new warehouses.
Construction contractor Buildmark Contracting has been awarded the contract for both Patchi warehouses in Dubai.
Buildmark Contracting, a design-and-build contractor specialises in steel structural buildings, industrial buildings, labour camps, workshops, and factories.
While construction work began a month ago on Patchi’s warehouse in Al Quoz, work on the warehouse in Dubai Investment Park has yet to start.
Patchi’s warehouse in Al Quoz celebrated a ground-breaking ceremony today.
CEO of Patchi UAE, Oussama Choucair commented on the occasion saying “We are committed to strengthening Patchi’s Presence in the UAE, where we opened our first boutique over 33 years ago, through the re-construction of our new state of the art and sustainable offices.
"This new development is a testament to our belief that the UAE is the best place to set up our operation to cater for our ever expanding network of boutiques.”
The 7,000m2 warehouse in Al Quoz will consist of ground plus mezzanine steel structure with two workshops on the ground floor and mezzanine floor.
Tarek Sersawi, the project manager onsite told Construction Week that the 7,000m2 warehouse will have a 2,000m2 mezzanine floor which will house most of the office spaces.
With a construction period of six months, Buildmark are up against a tight schedule to deliver the project by the end of June 2017.
“We will be working 24 hours a day to complete the work on time. We started with a day [schedule], eventually during the main construction period, we’ll move to a 24 hours schedule,” he said.
Sersawi also said that the workforce would increase as construction moves forward. “We have started with 25 labourers, we will eventually have a maximum of 75 workers onsite including the subcontractors.”
Subcontractors on-board include MNZ for mechanical, electric, and plumbing works; Al Shafar Steel Engineering LLC (Assent) for steel works; Naffco for firefighting and fire alarms; Alaska Air Conditioning for cooling systems; and Dulaila International Agency will supply elevators and dumbwaiters.
He said: “Other subcontractors for cladding and supply of aluminium and wooden doors will be handled at a later stage. For now we’re working [in tandem] with Al Shafar, Naffco, and MNZ to ensure they are no delays, and the work is carried out swiftly and precisely.”
Sersawi also informed us that by the end of June all physical work should be completed and hand over will take a maximum of three to four weeks.
Patchi officials said that this warehouse will only be a packaging unit, while the new warehouse in Dubai Investment Park ‘’will be triple the size’’ will be a full-scale chocolate and malt producing unit.
Semi-wrapped chocolate will arrive at the Patchi Al Quoz warehouse to be further decorated for sale to retailers, Sersawi added.
Hussein Koleilat, managing director of Buildmark Contracting, who was also present at the groundbreaking ceremony, said that the company is working on four projects, currently, which are in the initial construction phase and two in design stage. “We have several projects in the tender process, and we hope to get more contracts in this year.”
“This warehouse comprises a complete steel structure which will be full air conditioned with all the necessary workshop equipment and fire protection systems. There will be special provisions for CCTV monitoring and cameras,” Koleilat said.
He concluded by stating that it is a challenging project in every aspect of construction, starting from the high quality requirements of Patchi's corporate standards and image, to the green measures respecting stringent environmental practises to finally meeting a challenging time frame to final delivery.
“We strongly believe that we will demonstrate our experience and passion in all aspects to make this project a huge success.”
