Chinese construction equipment manufacturer Shandong Lingong Construction Machinery (SDLG) has received the coveted China Quality Award – a prestigious accolade that fulfils a role somewhat akin to a Chinese Oscars of the business world.

As the nation’s highest honour for performance excellence, the award recognises commercial enterprises for their superior achievements in quality management and operational development.

“As one of the most influential construction equipment manufacturers in the country, SDLG values innovation and continuous improvement in every step of its production processes… in high quality control standards and a flexible management style,” said Wang Zhizhong, board chairman of SDLG.

SDLG adopted lean production methods and introduced a performance excellence model a decade ago – after the Volvo Group acquired its 70% stake in the Linyi, Shandong Province-based business.

Since then, the company has undergone a major transformation – using quantitative methods to evaluate every aspect of the business against predefined parameters and allow it to continuously improve the quality of its products and operational efficiency.

The China Quality Award was established by the China Association for Quality in 2001 to boost the competitiveness of Chinese industry, and takes into account several criteria: accuracy, quality, leadership, performance management, marketing strategy and corporate social responsibility.

SDLG was presented with the award at the 16th annual Quest for Excellence conference in Beijing.

Guests included Gu Xiulian, VC of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress; Luan Enjie, an academic from the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Leon Toussiant, CEO of the European Foundation for Quality Management; and Jia Fuxing, chairman of the China Association for Quality.
